Quarterly Co. Creativebug Box Review August 2014 #BUG01

This is the first Quarterly Co. box from Creativebug, a website company that provides its members with hundreds of online craft classes.  If you're right-brained, this is the right box for you!  The #BUG01 box focused on the joy of doodling and lettering.

#BUG01

In this box, we meet talented artist, Lisa Congdon.  She is pictured above.  The Creativebug letter gives subscribers access to Lisa's 4-week video series on stylized line drawing and lettering.  This is over 4 hours of art instruction!  I found her very interesting and fun to watch.  She has a great, relaxing voice and really takes you through her art process step-by-step.  Sometimes people get a little anxious when given a drawing task, but this experience is absolutely stress-free!

Cloud9 Fabrics
Fairy Tales Fabric Swatch ~ This fabric swatch was created by Lisa for Cloud9 Fabrics.  It goes hand-in-hand with her lettering tutorial.  Whimsical phrases and sayings adorn the fabric in a variety of decorative fonts.  If you like the brightness of red, yellow, green, and blue, you'll love her other fabric designs.

Funtape
Funtape ~ Decorative/washi tape is so popular among crafters right now!  I received two rolls of tape with geometric designs on them.  Lisa incorporates the use of circles, triangles, and squares in her artwork.    Her week 2 video is titled "Geometrics" and teaches us how to use basic shapes and patterns to create  eye-popping illustrations.  The Funtape website has several ideas for use, which I found very helpful.

Tattly
Tattly Tattoo ~ Lisa's work can be seen in Martha Stewart Living Magazine, the Museum of Modern Art, Urban Outfitters, American Greetings, General Mills, and so many more places.  Her art even made it to this tattoo from Tattly!  Concentric circles - I'm ready to start drawing these tonight.  Tattly tattoos are printed with vegetable-based ink and are FDA compliant.  I'd like to take this time to say I miss the #YAY boxes from Tina Roth Eisenberg  :-)

Lisa Congdon
Lisa Congdon's Doodling Manifesto ~ Words to live by for artists of all ages!  I'm putting this up in my 4th & 5th grade classroom.  I think these are great principles that my kids will enjoy reading and contemplating.  I love #6 - imperfection rules.  We live in a world where perfection is expected and stressed, but impossible to achieve.  This little thought should help ease the children's fears of not being able to create perfection.

Pigma Micron
Pigma Micron Pens ~ Tools to doodle with!  These are the pens of choice for Lisa.  According to her blog, she has partnered with Sakura, the makers of the Pigma Micron pens, as their featured artist.    I just signed up for Lisa's emails for a chance to win more of these pens!  Quarterly Co. subscribers received the 1.0 and .5 sized pens.  The pens use archival pigmented ink that is chemically stable, waterproof, and fade resistant.

Strathmore 400 Series Recycled Sketch Pad
Strathmore 400 Series Recycled Sketch Pad ~ This notebook is filled with 100 sheets of heavyweight recycled sketch paper.  The 400 Series has a harder surface than the 200 and 300 Series papers, making it ideal for advanced artists.  I love how our products match those in Lisa's videos.

Creativebug
This is such a mind stimulating, yet relaxing box!  I think the #BUG01 is a wonderful concept and love having access to Creativebug's instructional videos.  It's nice being able to watch these in my house and on my own timetable.  I've found myself surfing through the Creativebug website trying to predict what the next box will feature.  I would love a cake decorating box!

If you are interested in this box, you can find out more information at Quarterly Co.  The box is $50 and shipped every three months or so.
