This box is a special request from my daughter. She loves Japanese candy and we thought we'd try Japan Crate. We chose the Premium monthly crate, which is $30 and includes 15 items. Of those items, one will be a drink, a DIY kit, and a revolving bonus item.
I was very impressed with this Manga-Zine. Our past Japanese candy boxes from other companies only sent a 1 page description of each item. This is a small booklet, similar to Loot Crate's magazine. It describes all of the items in the box, gives DIY kit directions, includes a comic story, and highlights Japanese culture! The April theme is "Tropical".
Waku Waku Zoo Animal DIY ~ You get to create your own zoo animal with this kit! Waku Waku is the onomatopoeia for the sound of excitement (like 'oh'). There are 3 easy steps to make your edible animal creation. It's pink and yellow - strawberry and lemon flavored respectively. #wakuwaku
Sakupan Giant Wafer ~ A large cookie wafer shaped like the adorable Saku Panda! It's crunchy and fluffy. The panda face is a combination of milk and white chocolate.
Fruit Shop Gummy ~ This is a package of gummy snacks that are fruit flavored. They taste like the fruit they're shaped after.
Sherbert Pero Cola ~ I thought this was a cool inclusion! It's like a Fun Dip concept with a Pop Rocks fizz. Inside was a cola flavored sucker that you could dip into the powder, which fizzed in your mouth.
Rock, Paper, Scissor Gummy ~ I think this was a cola flavored gummy. Every package contains one large gummy hand shaped in the form of either a rock, paper, or scissors. This treat definitely sweetens up the classic game of decision! Olivia's gummy was shaped like paper.
Caplicocot ~ Inside this package were 12 heart shaped chocolates. My daughter actually shared this with me! It's not a solid chocolate, but very airy on the inside. They were pretty good.
Puru Mocchi Grape ~ These are grape flavored gummy cubes. They are sugar-coated and taste great!
Fue Ramune ~ We've received whistle candy before in a different box. They make a loud whistling sound. The taste reminds me of the Fun Dip stick - subtle and sweet.
Wow!? Such Banana! ~ This was one of Olivia's favorites in the box. It's a banana flavored marshmallow with a chocolate cream filling.
123 Green Apple Gum ~ This small pack of gum had a green apple flavor. It's an example of old-fashioned Japanese candy.
Calbee Shrimp Chips ~ Olivia LOVED these! She received the original flavor and said they were great. I didn't get to try them because she's a hog!
Chip Star Ebikoubashi ~ I can't believe these are from Nabisco! The packaging and chip have a Pringles feel. I don't think Olivia liked these as much as she did the other chips, but they say this brand is very popular in Japan.
Pineapple Soda ~ This was another one of Olivia's favorites. This was the main reason why I chose the premium crate. She loves Japanese drinks and we've never had a Japanese candy box that includes drinks. She said it was really good.
Kawauso No Kotsume ~ This is an otter - a pink otter! It's from the toy company, AMUSE, which is known for creating characters found as prizes in Japanese arcades. Very kawaii! This bonus guy was also the feature object of a photo contest.
I'm loving the Premium Japan Crate! Wish I could have tried more items, but my daughter ate everything within two days.
